A personal interiors (and exteriors) wishlist
reno and deco inspiration feat. pieces you can actually buy
Hi! Welcome back to Friday Finds - a series where I scour the internet (and sometimes the real world) shopping for myself and my readers. Below you’ll find a peek into remodel inspiration for my fixer upper, and other home bits I’m debating for the space <3
If you like my content, you can also find me on Instagram, YouTube and TikTok.
and if you’re more of a fashion girl:
a preloved and vintage fashion curation, mostly with TRR finds (I update this weekly)
After nearly three years in our fixer upper, we’re finally getting to the fun stuff! Our main bathroom is an 80s disaster in its current state (I will spare you photos for now) and all we’ve replaced so far is the toilet due to necessity.
I’d love for the new space to take inspiration from the outdoors, using earth tones and natural materials. I want it to feel clean and cozy, with nothing too polarizing or expensive, as this home will likely turn into a vacation rental — we’re saving up to purchase in a more commutable area to NYC, even though I adore where we’re currently based in the Catskills. It’s just not practical for work at the moment, but maybe you can come stay one day? x
Interior shopping list:
I already have this Nelson wall sconce in our guest bedroom, but I’d love to make it a pair. A shame they’ve increased the price so much, but I love the statement these make, and symmetry makes my eyes happy
Light fixture swaps are top of my mind for inside and out - this Hay rice paper pendant is great for something affordable (although I wish it wasn’t bright white) and this flush mount looks like a good move for a cozy and warm hallway light
I have my eye on this rug from Nordic Knots from my living area - even though I said I’d stop with jute rugs after potty training a puppy
I’m also looking for a massive wall unit for the living area - either Vitsoe shelving or this Pier unit on DWR seems like a nice option! I always love danish teak or rosewood sets, which I’m sure you know if you are subscribed to my auction curations, but this home is already filled with a ton of wood. Metal would be nice for a contrast!
All of our interior door hardware was swapped for black iron plates with porcelain knobs, but I have yet to pull the trigger on our exterior doors due to the insane cost of hardware. I loooove these from Rejuvenation when the time comes.
Living in a cabin in the woods has drawn me to texture more than I’d ever typically lean in to in a city space. I’ve found myself saving quilts, checked sheets, embroidered curtains, abstract glass panels, shaggy wools…it adds a coziness that feels necessary.
When we first bought the house, I had the idea that exterior work and landscaping would come last — but it’s all I’ve been interested in as of late, even though the inside is far from done.
Above is inspiration that seems (somewhat) attainable for our home. We’re on six acres, mostly wooded, with lots of moss and wildflowers. I hope to add a sauna and outdoor shower for a sort of cold plunge sometime soon, and a fence in our side yard for our dogs to roam safely without concern of bear or coyote run-ins. Also a small garden space for growing herbs and a bit of our own produce!
Last year, we refinished and painted the majority of our deck ourselves, which was a huge undertaking of a project. I’m hoping to do the same later this summer for retaining walls and garden beds attached to the house.
Exterior shopping list:
I’ve had the Hay Palissades collection saved forever. It’s on sale….
With most of our exterior paint work done, I’m now on to obsessing over replacing light fixtures. These from Louis Poulsen are the dream, but we’ll likely go for something more affordable and high light since we live in an area with no light pollution. Although I still want it to feel warm and cozy! Any suggestions for floodlights that aren’t an eye sore?
A smokeless fire pit is next on the to-buy list
Has anyone tried these raised garden beds? They seem cost effective and look decent
